Primarily acting as a member of the warfare department, responsible for such war-fighting roles as weapon operator, Radar Picture Supervisor, Armed response team and helicopter boarding party. Chris was secondarily appointed to assist the IT officer by providing 1st line support, securing an NVQ level 2 in Engineering Principles.
Providing 1st line tech support to 60 companies, with up to 1500 users per company. Providing 2nd line support as a Senior network engineer for 20 companies across 4 continents both remotely and in-person, whilst also maintaining telephony systems and bespoke application systems. Responsibility over all network related issues such as site to site VPN, Internet access and switching whilst designing and implementing Active Directory system for parent company, with efficient and functional AD and Distributed File System replication across Europe, Asia and North America.
Operating as a server engineer responsible for maximising uptime of Microsoft Windows server infrastructure within the AIB London FX & Bond unit dealing room domain Provided support for Hyper V & physical servers running financial applications on a Windows server 2003 / 2008 platform. Applications included Sophis, Reuters, Bloomberg as well as various bespoke applications.
Managing BAU network operations on over 300 network devices across Europe, Middle East and Asia as a Senior Engineer for all switching platforms, with responsibility for all BAU network activities ranging from day to day maintenance and troubleshooting, ITIL Change requests and DR schemes to planning and implementing IOS upgrades within active data centres. Configuring low latency environment for exchange connectivity and liaising with various tier 1 banks to maintain BGP routing across all firewalls and MPLS links.
Holding full remit for global network systems of 800+ devices, working within a team of 7 network engineers and full responsibility for multicast market data feeds in a low latency environment IT support for 6 core data centres, with systems including Nexus 7k, fabric path and Juniper firewalls.
Conducted a major IP scheme migration across 39 sites as a EMEA Network Architect, including full architectural redesign alongside significant data centre migration. Implemented business-critical support for the global Aruba wireless system, 55,000 end user devices.
Appointed EMEA Network Architect, spearheading network projects for the EMEA region designed & delivered DMVPN solution to AWS VPC, Data Centres and 130 EMEA sites Network Technical Design Authority responsible for all areas of network engineering, project engineering and support services, including project planning, approach and implementation. Successfully implemented the provision of 4th level SME support to the network team for systems, such as Nexus 7 & Cisco IOS.
Delivery of improved cyber security & network connectivity for UK Counter Terrorism & Border Force. Successful implementation of BGP routing (VPNV4) between a portfolio of secure VRFs. Provided support for Cisco ACI Data Centre deployment. Deployed AWS VPC for dedicated UK Border force internet breakout using directconnect.
Provided network design, engineering and consultancy services during a major data centre migration. Delivered multicast PIM / SSM / ASM for various market data feeds. Implemented resilient Reuters service into multiple data centres. Configuration & troubleshooting on ASA Firepower & Checkpoint firewalls and provided SME services for BGP deployment, allowing for a scalable & resilient WAN service.
Supported global web services farm utilizing Citrix Netscaler load balancing. Refresh of Global inter data centre WAN acceleration links using Silverpeak EdgeConnect appliances. Acted as routing & Switching SME during IT outsourcing programme to Tata Consultancy Services. Designed and supported Cisco ISE NAC solution using DOT1X. Provided operational support to various market data feeds in a low latency environment. Provided operation support to global Silverpeak SD WAN / SDN Solution. Provided consultancy & engineering services for OSPF redistribution project between various VRF’s. Technical lead for various minor projects such as Netflow deployment and bandwidth capacity refresh. Vendor management with various 3rd parties ranging from network technology vendors such as Cisco and Palo alto, to service providers such as BT Radianz. Troubleshooting of Inter Data centre OTV mesh. Administration of Infoblox IPAM, DNS & DHCP service. Troubleshooting and configuration of Palo Alto 3000 / 5000 series firewalls. Refresh of Global inter data centre WAN acceleration links using Silverpeak EdgeConnect appliances.
Assurance and Architecture of all global network projects responsible for connectivity of 35,000 Global users across 300 sites Final technical escalation for Network Engineering issues. Creation of HLD / LLD for complex Network Projects and firewall maintenance of 100+ Palo Alto & ASA firewalls. Project delivery leading a team of Network Engineers responsible for maintaining optimal global routing using BGP and EIGRP. Designed and Implemented B2B solution using Cisco ISR routers. Maintained connectivity to 300+ Azure / Cloud subscriptions using BGP route based VPN’s. Selected relevant technologies to translate business requirements into deliverables.
