What is Data Migration?

Files and Shares
SMB/NAS to SharePoint, OneDrive, or Azure Files using Microsoft Migration Manager or SPMT, with metadata and permissions mapping.
Databases
SQL Server to Azure SQL or Azure VMs, aligned to Microsoft’s current guidance for Database Migration Service and the Azure SQL migration tooling.
Workloads and VMs
Agentless discovery, assessment, and migration of on-premises servers to Azure with Azure Migrate, orchestrated and monitored from a central hub.
Archives and PSTs

Design and Plan

Migrate
Execute bulk and delta passes, monitor throughput, handle exceptions, and communicate progress. Azure Migrate and supported ISVs provide progress telemetry and throttling controls.
Validate and Cutover
Verify item counts, checksums, and permissions; complete application smoke tests; switch DNS or app endpoints; and run a hypercare window.
Decommission and Handover
